Hurricane-
A Severe Destructive Force
Hurricanes are
one of many nature’s destructive forces. Word hurricane means “Big Wind”; they
are storms, based on seasonal changes and happens mainly in August and
September. They starts from easterly waves, and turn into a great tropical
depression with a wind of a speed up to 31 miles/hour. Later, these winds can
turn into a tropical storm with a wind of a speed of 73 miles/hour and
eventually becomes a hurricane.
Hurricanes are big tropical cyclones that
creates over oceans close to equator, for instance, the Caribbean Sea and the
Gulf of Mexico. They usually occur in a parabola shape path and do not normally
hit land at all. If they could reach land, destruction of property is possible.
Winds rotate in an anti clockwise in the northern hemisphere, while clockwise
in the southern hemisphere. Winds can travel with a speed from 70 to 150
miles/hour. Winds normally blow circularly at a low pressure centre, which is
known as the eye of the storm. They cause a huge deaths, in addition to the
huge property damages every year due to high strength winds and tidal surges.
In 1900 in Galveston Texas, was the worst hurricane in the U.S history, 6000 thousands people were died.
Ninety percent people died of drowning.
People, who are living near hurricane danger
area, must prepare themselves for the worst. Keep an eye on hurricane history
of your area. Place boat in a secure place, so that in case of emergency can be
reached easily. All dead tree limbs should be discarded. All rain water
drainage system should be secured. Destruction from hurricane can be avoided by
taking preventive measures (Popp, 2008).
