Volcanoes
A Volcano is usually a vent in mountain
through which hot substances and gases rise to surface. These mountains are
usually cone shaped. Volcano is after the name of an island Volcano, which is
situated at north of Sicily in the Mediterranean Sea.(American Public Health Associations , 2005). This islands name was
given by the early Romans, because it emitted smoke like vapor and supposed to
be the home of their god of fire called Vulcan. A volcano is a crack in the
earth’s outer layer, over a cone shaped volcanic materials, is accumulated.
This cone is created by the accumulation of molten or solid matters that is
expelled out through the hole from the inside of the earth.
There are some ways available to predict
the spill activity of a volcano. The most common method is to study the
geography of area where it exists. They can produce and become a cause of
earthquakes as well such as Mount Saint Helens, Washington, USA, did in 1980.
In order to minimize the destruction by
volcanoes, volcanologists regularly study various effects, for instance,
increases in the warmth of the volcano, to predict eruption of volcano. There
is little, humans can do to prevent a volcano to erupt, but still some attempts
can be made to minimize the losses. Streams of lava can be diverted from towns
and can be directed to a deserted area. Walls can be built to slow the flow of
lava or lowering the lava temperature by water is to some extent possible.
